PORTUGUESE KAYAKSURF SOT 2012 CHAMPION

Eurico Viana started paddling with thirteen years in Naval 1º Maio Association in Figueira da Foz and with fifteen, came to the National Rowing Team. The passion for the sport extended to age 21, the age at which he was already a coach in his sports association. With the sea almost in front of the door, the jump for surfkayaking was more than natural.

After the first experiments with river kayaks, the Figueira Kayak Clube athlete began investing in various types of classes. Last year, he won the portuguese circuit in kayaksurf sit-on-top (SOT).

Although only truly started to compete in surf kayaking in 2009, Eurico Viana, 31 years old, does not neglect the other categories of our sport. In 2010, ranked 1st in the SOT kayaksurfing and was 5th in HP (Santa Cruz Ocean Spirit). In 2011, collected three sixths places in the national circuit (kayaksurf HP) and always reached the podium in the category SOT - 1st in Peniche, 3rd in Foz do Arelho and 4th in Figueira da Foz. As a final result, he became SOT vice-championof surfkayaking in that year just behind Hugo Paz i. 2012 was the confirmation of the upward stroke - won in SOT kayaksurf, and in HP, oscillated between the fifth and sixth places. Apart from the national circuit, the athlete from Figueira da Foz, also participated in three spanish events last year. In Bastiagueiro Open (where he won in kayaksurf SOT), the Xtreme Pantin (reached the semi finals of kayaksurf HP) and Mundaka in the Basque Country. For 2013, Eurico Viana assumes he will venture into another category: kayaksurf IC. Besides kayaksurf, he also likes to do some snowboarding, sea kayaking and mountain biking.
